First lets start with a brief overview of how to play the game of blackjack.

What is the game of blackjack?
Blackjack, also known as 21, is a card game played with one or more decks of 52 cards.

The objective
The objective of the game is to win the round by making a hand that equals to 21 points, or as close as possible to 21. The fastest way to achieve a hand of 21 points is through a blackjack. This is when a player possesses an ace (11 points in this case) and a card worth 10 points (10, J, Q or K).

Dealing stage
The dealing stage ends after all the players have been dealt two cards each face up. The dealer receives one card face down (concealed) and the other face up. If a players two cards equal to 21 points after the dealing stage, this is known as a blackjack, the highest scoring hand in the game. No hits are required at this stage and the game carries on to the next player.

Hitting stage
During the hitting stage, the players count the point totals of their hands. If they feel they are close enough to 21 points, they may choose to keep their hand and pass. In case the players feels that his/her hand is insufficiently close enough to 21 points, the player may decide to receive a card from the dealer. This is known as a hit.

Going bust
Going bust is when the players hand exceeds 21 points during the hit stage of the game. In this case, the players hand is forfeited and his/her bet is lost.

Dealer hitting stage
After all players have taken their hits in an effort to achieve 21 points, or as close to 21 points as possible, it is time for the dealer to take hits in an effort to beat the points of all the qualifying players hands. At most tables, the dealer will continue to take hits until a total score of 17 points is achieved.

If the dealer exceeds the total value sum of 21 in their hand the dealer busts and all non-busted hands win. In the case the dealer does not bust their hand is compared to each players hand, with the highest values less than 21 used for each hand

Winning a round
To win a round, the dealers hand must not be greater than that of the player after all players have received their hits.

The various card values in Blackjack
Each hand has a total value determined by the card values which are as follows: Aces are worth 1 or 11, cards 2-10 have their shown numeric value. Kings, Queens, and Jacks are all worth 10.

The split rule
The split option is available when you are dealt your first two cards in the hand and they are of the same value. Should the player decide to use the split command, then the two cards are taken apart and both receive a hit. You now literally own two competing hands and have doubled your chances of winning.

Split Aces only get one card. Another split can be done per split hand, except for Split Aces. The Double Down command is available when the first two cards are dealt in the hand, this will double down your main bet amount and draw one additional card. A Double Down can be done on the first two cards of a split hand but not on Split Aces.

Payouts
If you are the one with the blackjack after your first two cards have been dealt, you automatically win and receive the blackjack table payout on your main bet. There is usually a payout of 1:1 on all winning hands. If there is a tie there is a push on the hand and the bet is returned while the game round ends.
