Origin of slot machines
Slot machines, also known as slots, are casino gambling machines that have three or more reels and operate using coins and a lever or button to start the reels spinning. They originated from the first slot machine with an automatic mechanism and spinning reels, invented by Charles Fey of California, USA in 1895, that was named "Liberty Bell". It is regarded a historic artifact and is currently on display at the Liberty Belle saloon in Reno, Nevada.
Although there have been great advances in slot technology since then the three reel model is still used today. From the the huge success of the machine, more mechanical gambling devices were made, introducing a new era of gambling games and slot machines with big payouts.
Video slots introduce improved technology
The first video slot machine was invented in 1976 by the Fortune Coin Company in Las Vegas. The video slot machine was called "Fortune Coin" and introduced video screen and electronic technology for all slot machine functions and was housed in a show-ready slot machine cabinet that was presented at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel.
Since then they have continued to evolve, adding screen functionality, better graphics, improved gameplay, more pay lines and bigger jackpots.
The objective is to win money from the slot machine matching usually symbols, images, numbers, and characters that might be depicted on the reels into winning combinations and pay lines according to the game rules.
On video slots and online slots the reels are simulated, if a player makes a winning combination as depicted on the slot game payout table, the players get credited cash, spins, and extra games.
How slots work
Most modern slot machines are designed using pseudorandom number generators; algorithms that continuously generate a sequence of random numbers close to the sequence of properties of being truly random. Almost all of the reputable online casinos today are regulated by law and are constantly being examined by regulatory bodies that examine and validate the fairness of their games and operations, and provide them with certification guaranteeing that they are a trustworthy, safe and fair place to play casino games online.
Slot machines are typically programmed to pay out 82%-97% winnings based on their RTP, that is their programmed payout percentage known as "Return to Player". The higher the RTP of a particular slot game the better its payout percentage over a period of time.
